DIGITALIZATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

3 STRATEGIC IT LOCATIONS

At Hilti, we provide IT services, solutions and support on a global scale. In Global IT, we have 3 main strategic IT teams, based in Tulsa/Plano, Buchs, and Kuala Lumpur (KL). In KL, we are known as Hilti Asia IT Services (HAITS).

IT Division

Our IT Division is organized in vertically matching the Hilti business functions and processes and horizontally to support IT verticals in delivering innovative IT solutions and services to our business community enabling them to win new business and capture market share.

IT Functional Areas

Cyber Security

We are part of the Chief Cyber Security Officer (CCSO) global team. The Security Operation Center (SOC) team is based in Malaysia and manages the Security Operation Center (SOC) and Security Engineering pillars. We are the protectors of Hilti’s data and strive to provide top class security operations and engineering via automation and best of class solutions to the HIlti business.

Marketing & Sales IT

We deliver solutions for all our sales channels, territory salesmen, customer service, Hilti stores and online channels through marketing and sales related IT module in SAP S4/HANA, SAP ByDesign and Salesforce.com. We help our salesforce to understand customer’s real needs to be able to tailor made an offer. With our digital solutions, we enable the transformation of our sales approach to be much more precise and targeted. We aim to generate highly enthusiastic customers through the provisioning of right tools and right solutions with an utmost user experience in all their touchpoint with us. Our responsibilities spread widely across understanding business processes and bridging it with the latest technology offering.

Corporate Functions IT

We deliver the solutions to all our Finance, Legal, Taxation, Corporate Development and Corporate Audit business counterparts in ERP systems (S/4HANA & SAP Business ByDesign). We provide solutions through innovation, automation and digitalization resulting in an overall positive customer experience. Our responsibilities spread widely across understanding of business processes and bridging it with the latest technology offering. We help our business users to understand their real needs to be able to tailor made an offer. We are also moving into automated testing and robotics process automation this year to automate our testing’s and processes as much as possible. In the Human Resources area, we are delivering state of the art IT solutions and provide high quality support to our employees and the HR community globally. Last year, we introduced MOMENT – our new people approach and processes, supported by one IT solution which is Workday. Workday is the leading system for all employee and organizational master data, feeding core IT solutions such as S/4HANA or CRM.

Product IT

Together with our Business Units, Product IT provides differentiation to Hilti's product, service and software innovations. Product IT consists of five teams supporting the digitalization of the construction site. The Digital Product Lifecycle Management team takes care of Hilti's product related data. Enables digital collaboration during product development and manages our software tool chain. Our IoT and Asset Management team are building up Hilti's IoT platform. Paving the way for Hilti's smart tools and services of the future. State-of-the-art common web services and applications are provided by our Software IT Services. Our Tool Service Process team is the IT backbone of Hilti's fleet management offering and repair service. Both are core business differentiator. And our User Experience team supports various product teams in creating market leading UX. With this all together over 70 team members in 4 locations across the globe are working side by side to blur the line between physical and digital. In Product IT, we are solving unique challenges of the construction industry on daily basis. We are creating the future today.

Supply Chain Management IT

The Global IT Supply Chain Management team delivers solutions for the complete Hilti supply chain, starting from the raw material till the final delivery of the product to the end customer. Based on the unique Hilti business model this implies that we own the full supply chain from wall to wall. This includes production and procurement, materials management, distribution into the Hilti owned network of warehouses down to the end customer delivery. Our responsibilities are widespread, starting from understanding the business processes down to realizing them in our leading edge on-premises and cloud systems which we have in our portfolio.

Information Management

On Information Management, we enable varied data sources to be used for business intelligence and analytics purposes through technologies such as SAP Business Warehouse, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Business Object and Power BI. We are also establishing our data science capabilities to generate and deliver user-centric empirical insights.

Enterprise & IT Architecture

The Enterprise and IT Architecture team drives the future of Hilti's system landscape by taking strategic architectural decisions and providing guidance across Hilti’s IT Organizations. We are involved in strategic initiatives designing together with the project team and responsible Solution Architects the IT architecture. The goal is the best possible fit to the target system landscape and our overarching enterprise and IT architecture principles.

IT Controlling & Business Development

We are the IT Controlling business partner of Hilti Global IT, steering the entire global IT budget of Hilti across the different locations. We are part of the Hilti international controlling community and interact daily with IT leadership team and Corporate Functions. We are also involved in steering projects in a very dynamic and innovative environment. In addition, we aim to drive the IT controlling and reporting towards high transparency and accuracy, using state-of-the-art tools and methods.

IT Integrity & Operations

The IT Integrity and Operations Team is responsible for the reliability, security, integrity and, connectivity of all the critical applications/systems commonly used by multiple global business functions across the Hilti Group in particular, the ERP systems (S/4HANA and SAP ByDesign) and their connected application portfolios such as SAP Fiori, SAP Gateway, SAP Process Orchestration, SAP Archiving and Enterprise Content Management. Thus, enabling integrations across all core business functions. Our team ensures proper change, release and test management processes and procedures are followed before promoting application/business functionality changes/updates to the productive environment. We also proactively monitor these applications/systems so that actions can be taken before they become unavailable thereby interrupting critical Hilti business functions.

IT Infrastructure

The IT Infrastructure team has the responsibility for technical engineering and management of the technology infrastructure landscape for Hilti. We are comprised of 5 pillars; Enterprise Systems, Digital Workplace Platforms & Connectivity, Digital Workplace Collaboration, Core Services & Security, and IT Delivery through which we build, deliver and support a range of on-premises and cloud services that are scalable, robust and secure by design. We believe that via an adaptive and agile IT infrastructure, we are better placed to enable user productivity and meet our strategic business imperatives.

Human Resource

The Human Resources team in Hilti Asia IT Services, the Hilti Global IT hub located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia develops and maintains a sustainable high-performing workforce with a strategic plan to attract best available talents in the market, to oversee employee performance and support the company’s culture. The HR strategy has successfully facilitated the projected and ongoing people growth, building a sustainable and high performing team and creating an all-in-one HR service center for Hilti Asia IT Services catering for the newly structured Global IT organization.

Non-IT Functional Areas

Hilti Asia IT Services which is our Global IT office in Kuala Lumpur is also hosting other non-IT teams from the business allowing closer collaboration between the IT and non-IT teams.

Energy & Industry Project Management Office (PMO)

We provide technical support for the South East Asia field sales force and global PMO team. We are responsible for structural analysis, modelling, tendering, and implementing complex Hilti solutions on Energy like Thermal and Nuclear Power, Oil & Gas On-Shore and Off-Shore Plants, Shipbuilding and Industrial such as Vehicle, Machinery, Electronics related projects. We integrate our different product lines like modular support system, anchoring or direct fastening and services such as construction services, trainings and design support and Software like Plant Design Software, BIM modelling or Inventor into ONE tailored TOTAL solution.

ON!Track Mobile Apps Team

We work on delivering IoT enabled solutions for construction customers to track and manage their construction assets and tools – delivered through a mobile application. We at Hilti then market and sell this as a Software as a Service (SaaS) business called ON!Track. Our team consists of Product Owners, Software Architects, UX designers, mobile developers, Quality engineers & a scrum master – hence we are a Software Product development team. We have a team of 18 employees (16 in Kuala Lumpur, 2 in Germany) plus 10 external contractors. We are always looking for exceptional talent who are interested in Software products – especially for Product owners, mobile developers and architects.

Region Asia-2 Finance Shared Service Center

We are responsible for providing Accounting related services to entities in the region Asia 2. Being the shared service center in Hilti, we went live on 1st March 19. We have a shared vision of “partnering to deliver world-class services through operation excellence and with an agile and high performing team”.

Product Portfolio Management - Information Management

We work closely with Business Unit Product Managers and are responsible to guide them through the whole Hilti product data setup process chain - from the need for new sales items to the items being displayed in Hilti Website, and finally to be made purchasable by Hilti customers. We provide high quality service support and Virtual Help Desk to ensure day-to-day operation of our internal customers. In addition, we aim to passionately drive operational excellence and customer centricity in the processes, methods, data, and systems of our product portfolio management as an agile global team that cares and performs.
